Join The Group Bot: country-based approval

bot • Moderation & Anti-Spam

About this App

You switch a group to join requests, and a day later there are hundreds of unfamiliar accounts in the queue. Going through them by hand takes ages, and letting everyone in is risky. Join The Group Bot takes that routine off your plate.

The bot approves requests to join public and private groups and channels, but only from users in your country. Everyone else is not accepted.

Geography-based entry: when it makes sense

A country filter is useful where the makeup of the members matters. Typical cases:

  • Local communities. A chat for a city or country, where people talk about services, jobs and news near home.
  • Channels with a local audience. Content written for readers in a single country.
  • Protection from bot floods. Mass requests often come from entirely different regions.

If your group has an international audience, this filter will only get in the way 🌍.

Setup in a couple of minutes

The bot has a short menu with two commands. /start begins, and /settings opens the options.

  1. Open the bot and send /start.
  2. Go to /settings and pick your country.
  3. Add the bot as an administrator of your group or channel.
  4. Turn on join requests in your chat.

Without admin rights the bot cannot see requests, so on step three give it permission to accept members.

How Telegram hands requests to a bot

Request mode is a built-in Telegram feature. A person taps Join, and an admin decides whether to let them in. An admin bot can approve or decline those requests automatically.

That beats manual moderation for speed, but automation has limits. Any country filter has a margin of error.

Who the filter might catch

A real person can be refused through no fault of their own. It is the normal price of automatic protection, and worth knowing in advance.

  • Travellers and people living abroad for a while.
  • Emigrants who want to stay in their home country's community.
  • People with foreign numbers, if the country is derived from the account.

Give members a way to reach you, such as an admin contact in the group description. Edge cases then get solved in a minute.

A filter is not a replacement for a moderator

Spammers can be local too. Country removes some of the junk, not all of it, so pair it with ordinary rules: no ads, limits on links, a check for newcomers.

The project runs a news channel for update announcements. Subscribe to it if you plan to rely on the bot long term 🔔.

One last tip: test with a request from a second account before opening the group to everyone. You will see that the bot receives requests and lets the right people in.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Join The Group Bot do?▼
It automatically approves requests to join public and private groups and channels, but only from users in the country you choose.
How do I set it up?▼
Send the bot /start, then open /settings and pick a country. After that, add the bot as an admin of your chat with permission to accept members and turn on join requests.
What if it rejects a legitimate person?▼
It can happen, since any country filter makes mistakes. Put an admin contact in your group description so rejected people can write to you, and approve them by hand.
Will it stop spam completely?▼
No. It filters out requests from other countries, but local spammers get through. Combine it with group rules and manual checks of suspicious accounts.
