About this App
Quick question: how many days old are you? Hours? And what weekday did you arrive on? Most people open a website, type the date in by hand and close the tab. AgeCalculatorBot answers all of that inside a Telegram chat. 🎂
You enter your birthday and the bot returns a handful of curious numbers. There is no registration form. Every input goes through buttons under the message.
The numbers it works out
The main job is simple: show how much time has passed since you were born and how long is left until the next birthday. Your age is broken down into several units.
- Years, months, days. The usual age, exact to the day.
- Hours, minutes, seconds. The same stretch of life in smaller pieces.
- Countdown. How long until your next birthday.
- Birth weekday. Monday, Friday or Sunday: a lot of people have no idea.
A counter that ticks while you watch
The totals in the message refresh interactively for about 15 seconds. You can watch your seconds of life pile up, which is more entertaining than it sounds.
A screenshot of that screen makes a decent message to a friend, especially if their birthday falls this week.
Will your birthday land on a weekend?
One of the more practical features is about planning. The bot lists the weekdays of your next ten birthdays, so you can see at a glance which year the party falls on a Saturday and which on a Tuesday.
That helps if you book a table early, request time off or choose when to invite guests. You skip the calendar and the year by year checking.
Round milestones people forget
The bot also looks for special events, for example the date you turn one million hours old. That is about 114 years, so it is a milestone for a record holder rather than for you.
The idea still carries over. Plenty of people like to mark the thousandth day of a relationship or a baby's first hundred days, and the day and hour counts from the bot make those dates easy to work out.
Languages and open code
The bot speaks English, German and Azerbaijani. The profile text is written in English and German, so it feels familiar to anyone living in a German speaking setting.
The author published the source under the GPL-3.0 license, and the bot is written in Python. In practice you can inspect how the dates are calculated or run your own copy.
Using it and what to keep in mind
- Open the bot and press /start.
- Pick a language if it asks.
- Tap in the day, month and year of birth.
- Read the result and wait while the numbers refresh.
A birth date counts as personal data. The bot asks for no phone number or documents, so give it the date and nothing more. If you are calculating for someone else, ask them first, because birthdays often show up in scammers' guessing games.
Small calculators like this one run on the author's spare time. If the bot is quiet, try again later or use any other date calculator and compare the result with a calendar.
