TeleOTP: 2FA Codes in Telegram

Mini App • VPN & Privacy

About this App

You turned on two-factor protection, and now every login wants a six-digit code. An authenticator app has to be at hand, and installing yet another one is not always appealing. TeleOTP offers a different route: generate the codes right inside Telegram 🔐

It is a mini app that works like a regular authenticator. Open it, read the code, type it on the site. Nothing to download.

Where the codes come from

When a service asks you to enable two-factor protection, it shows a QR code or a secret key. An authenticator stores that key and computes a fresh one-time code from it every 30 seconds using TOTP, a time-based one-time password.

Your phone and the service do not talk to each other at login. Each calculates the same code on its own, because they share a secret and the same clock. That is why such codes even work offline.

How TeleOTP differs from familiar authenticators

  • Lives in Telegram. It is available wherever you open the messenger: phone, tablet, computer.
  • Stored in the Telegram cloud. Added accounts are kept in your cloud storage, not on a single device.
  • AES encryption. Account data is encrypted, and without the encryption password the tokens cannot be read, even if someone gets into the profile itself.
  • Account migration. Moving to and from other authenticator apps is supported, so you are not locked in.
  • Open source. The code is published, so any developer can inspect how it works.

Getting started

  1. Open the mini app through the bot and set an encryption password. Choose a long phrase nobody can guess.
  2. In the settings of the service you want to protect, enable two-factor authentication and choose the authenticator app option.
  3. Scan the QR code or type the secret key into TeleOTP.
  4. Enter the displayed code on the site to confirm the link.
  5. Store the service's backup codes in a safe place outside Telegram.

The big risk: one basket

If you log in to services through Telegram and the codes for those services also sit in Telegram, losing access to the messenger hits you on two fronts ⚠️

So the encryption password should be strong and kept separately, in a password manager for instance. Turn on the cloud password in Telegram itself and review your active sessions. For critical accounts such as email or banking, many people prefer a hardware key or a separate device.

Spotting the real TeleOTP

Two-factor secrets attract scammers. Open only the bot with the exact name and links from the project's official channel. Lookalikes can steal your keys 🕵️

Never send secret keys or backup codes into a chat, even when someone claims to be support. The real app does not need them.

Who it fits

People who switch devices often and are tired of moving authenticators by hand. People who like keeping everything in one messenger and will look after a solid password. Everyone else should compare it with classic apps and pick the one they trust more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TeleOTP and what is it for?▼
It is a Telegram mini app that generates one-time two-factor codes (TOTP). You add a service with a QR code or a key and take the codes from the app. No separate program is needed.
Is it safe to keep 2FA codes in Telegram?▼
Accounts in TeleOTP are AES-encrypted, and without the encryption password the tokens cannot be obtained. Safety depends on that password, so make it long and keep it elsewhere. For your most important accounts, many people add a second, independent protection.
Can I move accounts to another app?▼
Yes, migration to and from other authenticators is supported. Before moving, make sure each service has backup codes. That way you keep access if something goes wrong.
What if I lose access to Telegram?▼
Use the backup codes you saved when enabling 2FA and reset the link through each service's support. That is why backup codes belong outside Telegram. Without them, regaining access can take a long time.
