Pix2Mix: your face from another continent

About this App

Ever wondered what you would look like if you had been born on another continent? Pix2Mix answers that with a neural network. Send a photo of your face, pick a region, and the bot returns a reworked portrait right in the chat. 🌍

The bot first appeared in 2020 and went viral, especially in Indonesia and Malaysia, where social media is still full of how-to videos. Today it runs under a new username and gets about 3,500 visitors a month.

What the filter actually changes

The neural network redraws facial features toward the typical look of the chosen group. Earlier versions offered four options:

  • Asia;
  • Africa;
  • India;
  • Europe.

You can set how strong the effect is. On low the changes are subtle, on strong the face shifts a lot but stays recognizable. Try both: the difference is often bigger than you expect. 🎚️

Getting your portrait

  1. Send /start and choose a language with /lang if needed.
  2. Pick a new photo in the menu and upload a picture of your face.
  3. Choose a region and the filter strength.
  4. Get the result in the chat, then save or forward it.

The main menu lives under /menu, /info shows your balance, and /pay is for topping up. 💳

Photos that work best

Neural networks love clean input. The better the source photo, the neater the result.

  • Face the camera or close to it, without a sharp head turn.
  • Even daylight with no harsh shadow across half the face.
  • No glasses or masks, and keep hair away from the eyes.
  • One person per shot: group photos can confuse the algorithm.

A joke with limits

The filter was built for fun, and plenty of people share their results with friends. Still, appearance and ancestry are sensitive subjects. Use it out of curiosity and self-irony, never to mock people or push stereotypes. 🤝

Only process your own photos or pictures of people who said yes. Posting an altered portrait of someone without asking can hurt them and violate their image rights.

Your photos and privacy

To apply the filter, the bot sends your picture to its servers. There is no public statement on how long photos are kept there. So do not upload documents or images you would not want to see elsewhere. 🔒

If something goes wrong with a payment or a result, the project has a news channel and a support email on its official website, both linked from the bot profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pix2Mix free?▼
The bot uses an internal balance, which you check with /info and top up with /pay. Early versions offered the basic filters for free. Current terms and prices appear in the menu before you pay.
Why does my result look odd?▼
The source photo is usually the culprit: a turned head, shadows, glasses or several people in frame. Use a sharp front-facing photo in daylight and try a different filter strength.
Does the bot keep my photos?▼
Photos are processed on the service's servers, and there is no public information on how long they are stored. Do not send documents or private pictures you would not trust to strangers, and only upload other people's photos with their consent.
How do I change the bot's language?▼
Send /lang and pick a language from the list. If the bot stops responding, restart it with /start and open the menu with /menu.
