About this App
There is a box of black and white pictures of grandparents and parents in the attic. You would love to see them in color, but there is no time to learn a graphics editor. imageColorizer makes it simple: send the photo into the chat and get a color version back. 📷
The bot runs as a mini app in Telegram. The profile promises a result in seconds, and the controls come down to two commands.
What it looks like in practice
The routine is very short:
- Press /start to launch the bot.
- Send a black and white photo into the chat.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Receive the color version and save it.
The /language command switches the interface language. There are no other settings in the menu, which is a plus for anyone who wants a quick result without fuss.
How a neural network adds color
A black and white picture holds no color data, only brightness. So the network does not recover real shades, it guesses them. It is trained on a huge number of photographs and knows that sky is usually blue, grass is green and skin has a warm tone. 🎨
Where there are enough clues, the result looks plausible. Where there are none, the color is picked at random. A dress may come out blue instead of red, and the network will never know.
What gives the best result
- Scan quality. A sharp, contrasty picture colorizes better than a blurry one.
- Size. Very small images give little detail to analyze.
- Damage. Cracks, stains and folds are better removed beforehand in any editor.
- Contrast. A very dark or faded picture should be lightened slightly before sending.
- Subject. Portraits, scenery and street scenes usually come out better than crowded compositions with tiny details.
If you want historical accuracy
A network picks colors by probability, not by documents. If accuracy matters, for example the color of a uniform or a flag, check details against archives, descriptions and family memory. Compare the result with them and correct it by hand if needed. 🔍
For a family album this is usually enough: even approximate colors make faces feel alive.
What to do with the result
A color picture can be printed, placed into a family book or shared with relatives in a chat. If the colors look odd, send another scan of the same frame: small differences in brightness sometimes change the outcome. 🖼️
Keep both versions together, labeling in the file name or on the back which is the original and which is processed. Years later this saves confusion.
Photo privacy
Pictures go to the service's server. If people, documents or an address are visible, think about whether to send it. Ask close relatives if they mind appearing in the photo. Do not upload other people's pictures without permission. 🔐
Other things to know
The bot is new and still small, so terms and features can change. The profile lists no prices or limits, so rely on the bot's own messages. Keep the original separately: a color version may always differ from reality.
Quality restoration with scratch removal and upscaling needs separate tools. Colorization solves one task, adding color. ✨
