CatBox: cat loot boxes and TON

CatBox is a Telegram game where players open boxes, get cats of different rarity and can swap rewards for TON. The project tagline is "Unbox, Earn, and Swap for TON". Below is how loot boxes work and why the word "earn" calls for caution here. 🐱

Cats, rarity and boxes

Each box hides a random cat. Rarity is shown in stars: promo posts mention a six-star cat as the top prize. The higher the rarity, the less often it drops and the greater the value of the reward.

Special "premium" boxes promise a chance at the rarest cats. This is the standard loot box scheme: bait in the form of a rare prize and a low probability of getting it.

What hides behind the TON swap

The idea is simple: in-game rewards can be converted into cryptocurrency. In practice the swap amount depends on the exchange rate, fees and project rules. The operator can change those rules.

• Rate. The price of TON moves, and a sum received today may be worth less tomorrow.
• Terms. Minimum amount, fee and timing depend on the service settings.
• No undo. A blockchain transfer cannot be recalled if you mistype the address.

The loot box as a gambling mechanic

If opening a box costs money or stars and the result is random, then by design it is a game of chance. The edge stays with the owner: over a long series of openings you receive on average less than you spent.
