Temply: text templates in Telegram

bot • Handy Tools

About this App

You type the same phrases ten times a day: an address, bank details, a greeting for a client, an answer to a common question. Copying them from notes is clumsy, and retyping is tedious. Temply takes that routine off your hands. ✍️

The bot stores your text templates and inserts them into any chat through inline mode. Type the bot's name in the message field, pick the template you want, and the text goes to your contact.

How calling it from any chat works

Inline mode is a built-in Telegram feature: start typing a bot's name in the message line and suggestions appear right above the keyboard. You never have to open a private chat with the bot.

In Temply, that list holds your templates. Tap one and it is sent to the chat you are in right now. It works in private dialogs, groups and channels where you are allowed to post.

Five commands and nothing else to learn

The interface is very simple. All setup runs through a few commands:

  • /newtemplate creates a new template.
  • /appendtemplate adds text to an existing template.
  • /deletetemplate removes a template you no longer need.
  • /language changes the bot's interface language.
  • /help shows the help message.

Appending to a saved template is handy when you build a long text in pieces and don't want to retype the beginning.

Who saves the most time

A few typical situations where templates pay off at once:

  • Sellers and administrators answer repeated customer questions about prices, hours and terms.
  • Chat moderators keep group rules and polite warnings ready.
  • Freelancers send a standard proposal and payment details.
  • Everyday users keep an address, opening hours or a birthday message at hand.

When templates pile up, give them short, clear names. Then the right one is found in seconds instead of after long scrolling. A good rule: start the name with the topic, such as payment, hours or greeting.

Writing a template that doesn't sound like one

The danger of canned text is that it reads like copy and paste. People feel it and get annoyed. A few habits help avoid the robot effect:

  1. Write in a natural voice, the way you would say it aloud.
  2. Leave room at the start to add the person's name.
  3. Keep it short: one question, one answer.
  4. Review the list once a month and delete what you never use.

Insert the template, then add one personal line before sending. The difference in how it lands is large. 🙂

Open source and privacy

The source code of Temply is published on GitHub, and the bot's description points to it. That is a plus: any developer can see how templates are stored.

Still, use common sense and keep only what you are happy to send to other people. Passwords, SMS codes and payment data do not belong in templates. 🔒

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I insert a template into a chat?▼
Start typing the bot's name in the message line of any chat and a list of your templates appears above the keyboard. Tap the one you want and it is sent to the current dialog. You don't need to open a private chat with the bot.
Which commands does Temply have?▼
The core ones are /newtemplate, /appendtemplate and /deletetemplate: create, extend and delete a template. There are also /language for changing the language and /help for the help message.
Can I extend a finished template?▼
Yes, the /appendtemplate command does that. It adds new text to an existing template, so long drafts are easy to build in parts.
Is it safe to store personal data in templates?▼
Keep only what you would calmly send to other people: an address, opening hours, standard replies. Leave passwords, SMS codes and payment details out. The bot's source code is open, so its behavior can be checked.
