About this App
You run a crypto project or an NFT collection and want a private chat for holders only. Checking every joiner's wallet by hand is not realistic. Collab.Land does it automatically: a person connects a wallet, the bot checks the balance and decides whether to let them in.
The service has been running since May 2020 and calls itself a leader in token gating. The bot's description says more than 50 thousand communities use it.
How the door check works
Token gating means access by condition: you hold the required asset, so you get in. No passwords and no lists, everything is read from the blockchain.
- The admin sets a rule. For example, a specific token or an NFT from a collection.
- The member opens the bot through an invite link and taps Start.
- They connect a wallet and sign a request. The signature only proves ownership of the address, and no assets move.
- The bot checks the balance and lets the person into the group if the condition is met.
Wallet verification must finish within five minutes or you get an error. Using the Telegram desktop app for the signature works best.
What the admin side offers
Settings live in a command center, reached with the /start command. Access rules are created there and group connections are managed.
- Many chains and wallets. Search results mention support for more than forty blockchains and thirty wallets.
- Repeat checks. The bot re-verifies members now and then, so someone who sells the token can lose access.
- Premium features. The paid tier adds things like rules with an "and" condition, where holders need several assets at once.
The /me command is for members. It shows the accounts and wallets linked to their profile.
Connecting the bot to your group
The order matters, so do not skip steps.
- Make chat history visible to new members. This upgrades the group to a supergroup, and without it the bot will not show up in the dashboard.
- Add the bot from the command center in one click, or manually by its exact username.
- Give it admin rights. It needs permission to ban users and to invite via link.
- Configure the rules and publish the join link.
The bot bans users and manages invites, so its rights are substantial. Hand them only to the genuine bot, never to a lookalike.
Watch out for impostors
A popular bot attracts many clones with similar names. Scammers copy the look and ask you to connect a wallet on their page.
A correct join link points to the exact bot name, with a code after the word start. If the name has an extra letter or digit, close the window.
Never type your wallet's secret phrase. Proving ownership takes only a signature, and nobody legitimate asks for a seed phrase.
Who gains from it and who does not
Token gating fits private clubs of NFT holders, crypto project communities and groups with token-based paid access. It filters out bots and random visitors, though it is not a perfect guarantee.
If your community has no use for wallets, skip the service. Members must connect a wallet, and some will refuse out of caution. That is reasonable, so warn people in advance.
One more point. Holding a token says nothing about good manners. House rules and moderation still matter.
