Mention Robot: call your admins

Bot • Channel Management

About this App

In a group of a few hundred people, an urgent question sinks in a minute, and nobody has time to look up who the admins are. Mention Robot fixes that with a single word: write #admin and the bot calls all admins, while #all calls every member 📣

Two hashtags instead of a list of names

The idea is simple: add the bot to a group and put the trigger into a message. The bot reacts to these words with the hash symbol.

  • #admin calls all administrators of the group. Handy for reporting spam or asking for help.
  • #all calls every member. Good for announcements nobody should miss.

You do not need to remember who is online or type five names by hand.

Who gets the alarm button

Letting everyone ping everyone is risky: one joker is enough to turn a chat into chaos. That is why the bot has access settings for each trigger.

  1. /setall_all lets every member use #all.
  2. /setall_admin keeps #all for administrators only.
  3. /setall_noone turns #all off completely.
  4. /setadmin_all, /setadmin_admin, /setadmin_noone do the same for #admin.

For a large chat a sensible choice is #all for admins only and #admin for everyone.

Stop a mention and get help

If a call went off by mistake, the /cancel command stops the mentions that are being sent. It helps in a crowded chat when you realize you should not have disturbed everyone.

The /help command shows hints on what the bot can do, and /donate leads to developer support. Donating stays voluntary.

When #all fits and when it annoys

A mass mention sends a notification to every person. For some it is useful, and for others it is noise at ten at night.

Good reasons to call everyone:

  • a stream or meeting is starting;
  • the chat rules are changing;
  • an urgent change of place, time or price;
  • you need opinions quickly before a decision.

Bad reasons: memes, personal favors and "who is joining me for a game". People will simply mute you 🔕

For admins: how not to become the chat's enemy

Set a rule for #all, such as no more than once a day, and pin it in the group description. Warn about important announcements ahead of time so members do not switch notifications off.

Many people mute large groups exactly because of excess mentions. Respect for attention keeps an audience better than any prize draw.

The bot and privacy

The bot reads messages in the group where you add it so that it can react to triggers. Check the permissions you give it, and do not add it to closed work chats with confidential data without agreement.

If the bot stops responding, check that it is still in the group and was not removed from the member list 🔧

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I call admins or all members?▼
Add the bot to a group and write #admin to call all admins, or #all to call every member. The bot mentions the right people in the message. No extra commands are needed.
How do I limit who can call everyone?▼
Set access with /setall_all, /setall_admin and /setall_noone for #all, and /setadmin_all, /setadmin_admin and /setadmin_noone for #admin. In a big group it works well to keep #all for admins only.
What if a mention went off by accident?▼
Send the /cancel command, which stops the mentions. To avoid mistakes, limit who can call everyone and remind members about the chat rules.
Is the bot paid?▼
The command list includes /donate to support the developers, so donations are voluntary. If other terms appear, they will be shown inside the bot.
