Themes for Huawei: give your phone a new look

Huawei's official theme store is decent, but some looks only exist on other models, and plenty of creative fan-made themes never make it there. 🎨 Themes for Huawei sends those files straight into Telegram: third-party themes plus system themes taken from other Huawei phones.

The bot runs in English and is small, with about 570 monthly users. To receive files you need to join its channel, where new themes get posted.

What you get

• Third-party themes. Designs by independent creators that the official catalog does not carry.
• System themes from other models. The stock look of a newer or simply different Huawei phone, on yours.
• .hwt files. A plain archive of icons, wallpapers, fonts and UI images that the built-in Themes app understands.

Install in five steps

1. Join the bot's channel and return to the chat to get file access.
2. Download the .hwt file from the chat to your phone.
3. Move it to the right folder with the Files app. On EMUI 9 and later that is Internal storage, Huawei, Themes. Older EMUI versions use HWThemes or Theme.
4. Open the Themes app, then Me and My themes.
5. Select the new theme and tap Apply.

Theme not showing up?

The extension is the usual suspect. If the file is called something like theme.hwt.zip, drop the .zip so only .hwt remains. Sometimes it is the reverse: a theme arrives as .zip and needs renaming to .hwt.

• Wrong folder. The Themes app ignores files in the wrong place. Check the path again.
• Stale app. Fully close Themes and reopen it.
• Folder instead of a file. A theme must be one .hwt file, not an unpacked directory.
• Device limits. Some budget models refuse third-party themes entirely because of their firmware.

Will it fit your phone 📱

.hwt themes target EMUI on Huawei phones. On Honor devices with Magic UI, files usually go into the Theme folder in internal storage. System themes from newer models may only partly apply if your EMUI version lacks some elements.

Note your current theme before switching. If you dislike the new one, you can return to the stock look in My themes with a couple of taps.

A quick safety note

An .hwt file holds pictures and fonts, not apps, so the risk is low. Still, only accept themes as .hwt and never install an APK offered as a theme. Themes never need root access. 🔒
