Data Marathon: 7 Days of Data

About this App

Everyone says data skills are in demand. But how do you find out whether analytics is for you without burning months and a pile of money on a long program? Data Marathon tries to answer that in a single week. 📊

It is a 7-day intensive on working with data, created by Nikolay Valiotti and presented through a Telegram bot. The bot tells you what the course is about and helps you decide if it fits.

A week instead of half a year

The short format is deliberate. According to the course site, going through the material takes roughly 10 to 15 hours, which means a couple of hours a day for a week. That is enough to get a feel for what an analyst actually does.

The course is built for beginners, and no IT degree or prior experience is required. If you work in marketing, management or sales, study something unrelated, or are thinking about a career change, you are the target reader.

Four commands, four answers

The bot acts as a guide to the course. It has a few commands, each with a clear job:

  • /tutor gives information about the instructor.
  • /program shows the course program.
  • /questions collects common questions and answers.
  • /contacts shows how to reach the author.

Start with /program. One look at the topics tells you if the week is worth your time.

Who teaches it

Nikolay Valiotti has worked with data since 2009. He holds a PhD in mathematical methods in economics, founded an analytics company, taught at a university and mentors on learning platforms.

He has written books on analytics for executives, hosts a podcast about people in the data field and founded a data community in Cyprus. For an entry-level course, learning from a practitioner is a real advantage.

Making the week count

A short intensive pays off only when you do the exercises instead of just reading. These habits help with almost any crash course:

  1. Block the time in advance. Two hours at the same hour every day beats one marathon evening on Sunday.
  2. Repeat everything by hand. The course uses practice datasets, for example a table of game events. Change a query and see what happens.
  3. Keep a list of questions. The confusing parts will tell you what to study if you continue.
  4. Notice how you feel. If digging through numbers was fun, that is a good sign.

What a week cannot do

Seven days will not turn you into a hired analyst, and the course does not claim it will. Its goal is more modest: show the profession, teach the basic ideas and help you pick a direction. 🧭

Employers look for practice on real projects, a portfolio and tool skills. A short intensive is the first step only. It does save time if you find out early that analytics is not your thing.

Check the bot and the course page for current terms and format, since they can change.
