About this App
Someone in the chat keeps breaking the rules, and you have asked them to stop three times but lost count. Ban Warn Bot keeps score for you. It remembers warnings and, if needed, removes the offender itself.
The bot belongs to a network of bots from one independent developer and is built for groups.
Why count warnings
Without a counter, moderation rests on admins' memory, and decisions come out uneven: one person is forgiven, another is not. A bot makes the rules the same for everyone.
Every warning is saved with a reason, so later it is easy to show a member exactly what they were warned for.
What happens at the limit
If you make the bot an admin, it will kick or ban members who were warned too often. By default a kick happens on the third warning.
You can change the limit separately for kicks and bans. A strict chat might set two, a relaxed one five.
Admin commands
- /warn and a reason. Gives a member a warning.
- /setlimit_kick and a number. Kick after that many warnings.
- /setlimit_ban and a number. Ban after that many.
- /revokewarnings. Clears a member's warnings.
These commands are open to every group member, not only admins.
- /listwarnings shows your warnings or someone else's.
- /listallwarnings prints all warnings in the chat.
- /getlimits tells you how many warnings lead to a kick or ban.
Setting it up in five minutes
- Add the bot to your group.
- Give it admin rights, otherwise it can only count.
- Set limits with /setlimit_kick and /setlimit_ban.
- Test on a spare member with /warn and /getlimits.
Moderating like a human
Automation does not replace common sense. Publish the chat rules in advance and say how many warnings lead to removal. Then sanctions are no surprise.
Give a warning with a concrete reason rather than for behavior. A member fixes things more easily when it is clear what is wrong. ⚖️
If you made a mistake, clear the warnings with /revokewarnings, without embarrassment.
Kick versus ban
A kicked member can return through an invite link, while a banned one cannot until an admin lifts the block. So a kick works as a first measure and a ban as the last.
Separate limits let you build a ladder: say, a kick after the third warning and a ban after the fifth. People get a chance to reconsider.
Admins most often slip up in these places.
- Warning everyone. When there are too many warnings, they lose weight.
- Giving no reason. The member feels treated unfairly and leaves resentful.
- Forgetting to reset. Old minor violations should not hang over someone forever.
- Withholding rights. Then the automation does not fire.
Who it suits
Admins of any group, especially busy ones where manual tracking of warnings gets old fast. A small friendly chat can do with spoken reminders.
