Translation Bot for Telegram

About this App

You are chatting with someone abroad and the right word just will not come. Opening a separate translator app, copying, pasting and switching back gets old fast. Translation Bot translates where you type, through Telegram's inline mode, in any chat.

It handles text and voice messages, which helps when a friend sends you an audio clip in a language you do not speak. 🌍

Translate without leaving the conversation

Inline mode is simple. In the message field of any chat, type the bot's name followed by your phrase. Telegram shows the result above the keyboard, and one tap sends the translation.

You do not have to add the bot to a group. It only reacts when you call it yourself, so other members are not bothered.

The bot also answers in a private chat: send a text or a voice message and get the translation back.

Five commands cover the whole setup

There are few commands, and you can learn them in a couple of minutes:

  • /start opens the main menu.
  • /help explains briefly how to use the bot.
  • /list shows ISO codes for every supported language (for example en, de, fr).
  • /tolang changes your default translation language.
  • /sepa changes the separator symbol that splits your text from the language code in an inline query.

If you usually translate into the same language, set it once with /tolang and stop thinking about codes. 🙂

Picking a language in an inline query

Languages are chosen by ISO code. You can look the code up in the list that /list returns. If you skip the code, the bot uses your default language.

The separator tells the bot where your phrase ends and the code begins. If the chosen symbol shows up often in your own texts, swap it with /sepa.

  1. Open any chat and start a message with the bot's name.
  2. Type the phrase you want translated.
  3. If needed, add the separator and an ISO language code.
  4. Tap the finished translation in the suggestion above the keyboard.

Voice for moments when reading is not an option

Voice messages in a foreign language are the hardest to follow. Speech recognition helps here: the bot turns audio into text and translates it. For short remarks that is usually enough to catch the meaning.

Long recordings with noise, strong accents or slang are recognized worse. For anything important, confirm the details in writing.

What machine translation can and cannot do

Automatic translation copes well with everyday phrases: asking for directions, ordering food, arranging a meeting. Jokes, idioms and narrow technical terms trip it up more often.

  • Short phrases come out more accurately than long paragraphs.
  • Contracts and official papers should not be left to automation.
  • Personal data does not belong in a query, because any translator processes whatever you send it.

A quick check helps: translate the result back into your own language. If the meaning survives the round trip, the other person will most likely understand it too.

Where the bot comes from

This is a small developer project. Its source code is public on GitHub under the MIT license, and the author posts updates in a separate channel mentioned in the bot's profile.

That tells you what to expect: a light tool with a narrow job, not a copy of a large commercial service.

Who gets the most out of it

Travelers talking to hosts, language learners who want to check a single word, and members of international chats where half the messages are in a language they cannot read.

If you need to translate whole books or subtitle files, look for a dedicated tool. This bot is strongest at speed and short phrases. ✈️

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I call Translation Bot in someone else's chat?▼
Type the bot's name at the start of a message in any conversation, then add your phrase. The translation appears above the keyboard and you send it with one tap. The bot does not need to be a member of the chat.
Which languages does it support?▼
The /list command returns the full set of ISO codes. Change your default target language with /tolang, so you do not need to add a code to every query.
Can it translate voice messages?▼
Yes, the bot's own description promises translation of text and voice. It works best with short, clear recordings. Noisy or very long audio can give inaccurate results.
What should I do if the bot does not respond?▼
Press /start to reopen the menu and check if you changed the separator with /sepa. If the bot is silent entirely, wait a little, because small projects sometimes restart. Status news is posted in the developer's channel.
