You have a film or a lecture and need only the soundtrack, or a subtitle file for your player? Installing a heavy editor for one track feels like overkill. Audio and Subtitle Extractor does it inside Telegram: you send a video and the bot returns the audio and the subtitles as separate files.
The bot describes itself plainly: it extracts audio and subtitle files from your videos. The commands are simple as well: /help for the help text and /donate if you want to support the author. 😎
What lives inside a video file
A video in MKV or MP4 is a container. It holds separate streams: the picture, one or more audio tracks and sometimes subtitles in several languages. Extraction means that a chosen stream is copied out as its own file.
So with a video that has two voice-overs you can take one track, and with a film that carries a set of subtitles you can get the language you need.
When it comes in handy
- Podcast or lecture. The video is recorded, but audio is easier to play on the road.
- Subtitles for a player. You need a standalone file to attach to another copy of a film.
- Language learning. Lines of text next to the original voice help you follow speech by ear.
- Editing. You need the sound from a source clip for work in another program.
How to use it
- Open the bot, press Start, then look at /help.
- Send a video file to the chat.
- Wait for the reply and save the files you receive.
Telegram takes longer to send and receive big videos, and the messenger itself has file size limits for bots. With a large file, first make sure it uploaded completely.
Not all subtitles are equal
Text subtitles, such as the SRT format, are easy to extract and open in any editor. Image-based subtitles, stored as a set of pictures, are harder to turn into text: that needs recognition, and the results can vary.
Some films also carry burned-in subtitles drawn straight onto the frames. No extraction can pull those out, because there is no separate stream to copy.
Check this before you upload
Send only video you are allowed to use: your own, openly licensed, or covered by your rights. The bot handles files, but copyright questions stay with you.
Do not send private recordings with sensitive content to a service when you know almost nothing about its owner. For such files, processing on your own computer is the safer route.
If the bot does not answer
Small bots often run on private servers and can be unavailable at times. If nothing comes back, try again later and check whether the track arrived as a separate message.
For regular work with big videos and many files, keep a backup method on your computer: free utilities can list every stream in a file and pull out the ones you want.
