RegexieBot: Regex Filter for Groups

Bot • Moderation & Anti-Spam

About this App

Spammers invent new workarounds faster than you can update a stop-word list. Swapped letters, extra spaces, links written in odd ways. 🧹 RegexieBot catches these by pattern rather than by exact word match.

It is a text filter for groups built on regular expressions. The bot does not chat, shows no ads in your group and speaks only when spoken to.

What it can catch

According to the bot's own description, a rule can trigger on many different things in a message:

  • Words and phrases. Including spelling variants.
  • Domains and usernames. Handy against ads and invite spam.
  • Writing systems. For example, removing messages in a given alphabet.
  • Emojis. You can cap how many are allowed.
  • Any sequence of Unicode characters.

Besides plain text, the bot checks message entities (links, mentions) and user names.

Rules are not only about deleting

The filter also works the other way: it can enforce a format. For instance, a message must begin with a specific hashtag, or contain no more than a set number of emojis.

It can also answer commands or questions by pattern. That helps in chats where the same questions come up every day. 💬

Energy ⚡️: what you actually pay with

This is the unusual part. Every message in the group uses up energy. The formula from the bot's documentation is the number of messages multiplied by 10 plus the processing price of your active rules.

The 10 is a constant cost. Telegram does not let bots block messages in advance, so the bot has to download every message, even when your rules are switched off.

Each rule's price is calculated automatically when you create it and shown at the top of the rule. A complex pattern costs more than a simple one.

  • Every month each user gets 1 million units of energy.
  • You can buy extra energy, which is spent after the free reserve runs out.
  • In a busy group the reserve can vanish quickly, even if you filter nothing.

If you no longer need the bot in a lively chat, disconnect it so the balance does not drain for nothing.

Getting started

  1. Press /start in the bot to see the list of your groups.
  2. Add the bot to a group and give it admin rights to delete messages.
  3. Create a first rule from a simple example: a domain or one word.
  4. Check the rule's price and see how it fires.
  5. The /energy command shows your balance and lets you manage it.

Begin with one simple rule. Complex patterns cost more and also produce more false positives.

Regex without the pain

A regular expression is a pattern that describes what the text you are looking for looks like. For example, one short string can mean "this word followed by any digits".

If the syntax is new to you, the project has a wiki with explanations. Test a pattern on harmless examples before enabling deletion: an overly greedy rule can wipe out normal messages. ⚠️

It is sensible to let a rule run in a small or test group first. 🧪

Who will use it

Admins of large chats where manual moderation cannot keep up, and anyone fighting repetitive spam that slips past ordinary stop words. 🛡️

If your chat is small and spam is rare, the moderation tools built into Telegram may be enough.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does RegexieBot cost?▼
Every month each user gets 1 million units of energy for free. When the reserve runs out you can buy extra energy. The bot's description states there are no ads in the group and no premium features.
Why does energy drain when my rules are off?▼
Telegram does not let bots block messages in advance, so the bot receives every message in the group. A constant charge of 10 units per message applies. In a busy group, disconnect the bot if you do not need it.
What permissions does the bot need in a group?▼
To delete messages the bot needs admin rights that include message deletion. Add it to the group, open the management menu through /start and create your first rule.
Do I need to know regular expressions?▼
For simple cases a domain or a single word is enough. Complex patterns need syntax knowledge, so read the project wiki and test a rule on harmless examples before enabling deletion.
