Word Counter Bot: Count Your Text

bot • Handy Tools

About this App

An essay of 300 words, a post with a character cap, a client text with a strict length. Opening a word processor just for that is annoying, especially when the text already sits in Telegram. Word Counter Bot counts words and characters right in the chat. ✍️

The idea comes straight from the bot's description: you send a text message, and it tells you the number of words and characters. There are only two commands, so there is nothing to learn.

How it works

  1. Press /start to launch the bot.
  2. Send your text as a regular message or forward it from another chat.
  3. Read the numbers: the word count and the character count.

If you need a hint, /help shows brief info. The bot has no other settings, which is a plus: nothing distracts you. 🔢

Words versus characters

These are two different measures, and it matters which one you need.

  • Words. Usually sequences of letters separated by spaces. Requirements for essays, reports and articles are most often set in words.
  • Characters. Every sign, including spaces, digits and punctuation. Limits for posts, titles and descriptions are set in characters.

Many platforms also mention "characters without spaces". If your task says so, remember that the count with spaces will be higher. Ask the client which variant they mean. 📏

When a counter in the chat helps

  • Study. Check if you fit the length of an essay or abstract.
  • Copywriting. Compare a text with the order requirements.
  • Meta descriptions and captions. Many platforms limit the number of characters.
  • Telegram messages and captions. A regular message holds up to 4096 characters, a photo or video caption up to 1024. A counter helps you avoid the limit.

The sooner you know the length, the less you cut at the last minute. ✂️

Small details that change the count

Different programs count slightly differently. Dashes, hyphens, numbers and links are a word for some tools and not for others. An emoji may take two characters instead of one.

So if a grade or payment depends on exact length, compare with the tool your reviewer uses. A gap of a few words rarely matters.

Text privacy

Before you send private letters, contracts or work documents to any bot, ask yourself if you need to. For counting, a harmless fragment or a copy without names and numbers is enough.

For an essay draft or a blog post there is almost no risk. For confidential papers, use an offline editor on your own device. 🔒

A small bot with a clear job

The bot was made by a small team of developers who release simple utilities. It does not try to replace an editor or a spell checker. The goal is simple: get two numbers fast.

This is a case where simplicity wins. No signup, no menus to learn, just send the text. 👍

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Word Counter Bot do?▼
It counts the number of words and characters in a text message. You send text to the chat and get the numbers back. The /start and /help commands are there for launching and for info.
Does it count characters with spaces?▼
The bot's description says it counts words and characters and does not specify spaces. If you have a strict "without spaces" requirement, check against another tool or test a short text to see how the bot behaves.
How long can the text be?▼
The limit comes from Telegram itself: one message holds up to 4096 characters. For longer texts, send them in parts and add the results.
Is it safe to send personal documents to the bot?▼
It is better not to. An anonymised copy without names, numbers and addresses is enough for counting. Confidential documents are easier to check in an offline editor on your own device.
