User Tagger: call the whole group

You post an important announcement to a group of two hundred people and nobody sees it: the chat scrolled past, notifications are muted. User Tagger fixes that. One command, and the bot mentions members in turn, so everyone gets an alert. 📣

The bot introduces itself exactly that way: it can tag users in the group for you.

The two main commands

Most work comes down to two commands, and both take your text.

• /utag tags all members. After the command you write your message, for example /utag meeting at seven.
• /atag tags only administrators. Handy when you need to call moderators, not the whole group.
• /cancel stops a tagging run you have started if you change your mind.
• /reload refreshes the member list.

Example: /atag please look at the complaint above. The bot gathers the admins and passes your message to them.

Supported languages

The bot speaks several languages: English, Turkish, Azerbaijani, Russian, Persian and Hindi. Switch with the /lang command. It shows a description of how it works with /help.

The privacy policy is available with /privacy. Read it before adding the bot to a big group.

Connecting it to a group

1. Add the bot to the group you need.
2. Grant the rights it asks for so it can see the member list.
3. Send /help and see how it all works.
4. Try /utag with a short test message.

If the list is outdated, for example after new members joined, press /reload.

When tagging everyone is appropriate

Mass mentions annoy people when used without cause. One inappropriate tag, and half the group mutes notifications or leaves.

• Fits. A meetup call, an urgent schedule change, a vote, a contest finale.
• Does not fit. Memes, greetings, chatter and arguments.
• Better targeted. If the news matters to ten people, mention only them.

Why the bot sometimes answers late

Telegram limits how many messages can go out per minute, and a popular bot in hundreds of groups runs into those limits. Then tagging does not start instantly. It is not a breakage but a platform constraint.

If you need a tag urgently and the bot is silent, wait a few minutes. Keep this in mind for evening hours, when most people are online, and plan your announcement ahead.

Beware of lookalikes

There are copies with similar names, and not all of them are safe. Add to your group only the bot whose name you have verified in the project's official description. A shady bot with admin rights can harm a group.

Give the bot only the rights it needs and check your admin list after connecting. Directory data shows tens of thousands of monthly users. 🙂
