Why you cannot just upload any picture

Telegram is strict about custom emoji. A static image must be exactly 100 by 100 pixels, as PNG or WEBP, ideally with a transparent background.

A video emoji is a WEBM file with the VP9 codec, also 100 by 100, up to 3 seconds, up to 30 frames per second, under 256 KB and with no audio. Doing that in an editor takes a while, which is the reason a bot like this exists. ⚙️

Your first set, step by step

1. Open the bot and send /new.
2. Name the set.
3. Send a photo, video or GIF. A simple drawing with a clear outline works best, since emoji are tiny and fine detail disappears.
4. Tie a smiley to each item so search can find it.
5. Add more with /add and review the result with /list.

Remove the background beforehand and the emoji will look clean on any chat color.

A sticker is big and sits in its own message. An emoji drops into a line of text, which suits headings, post captions and reactions.

A photo that makes a great sticker often reads badly as an emoji. Simplify the drawing instead of merely shrinking it.

Before you start

Using other people's custom emoji in messages needs Telegram Premium. Everyone else can see them but not send them. Creating sets may also depend on your Telegram plan, so check that in the app.

Do not upload other people's photos without consent, or material you have no rights to. A set is visible to others and can be reported. 🙂
