Splitsheet: who owes whom

Mini App • Finance & Payments

About this App

The trip is over and your head is a blur: who paid for dinner, who covered the taxi, who bought groceries. A week later everyone avoids eye contact. Splitsheet fixes this where your group already talks: a Telegram group chat.

You add the bot to the chat and write expenses as ordinary messages. It keeps a shared sheet and works out who owes whom.

Type it the way you'd say it

No forms to fill in. The project's site gives examples like "dinner 60€" or "groceries 50". The bot also handles free-form phrasing such as "Alex paid for me".

Got an amount wrong? Edit your message and the expense changes. To remove one, reply to it with a delete.

What the group gets

  • One shared sheet. Everyone sees the same numbers, so there's nothing to argue about.
  • A balance per person. The bot shows who is up and who owes.
  • Edits any time. Expenses can be changed or added after the fact.
  • No extras. No separate app to install, no sign-up and no ads.

Creating splits, adding costs and tracking balances is free.

Your first split in a minute

  1. Find the bot in Telegram search and press Start.
  2. Add it to a group chat with friends.
  3. Open a new sheet with /newsplit.
  4. Post costs as they happen and check the total.

For questions and ideas the project has a separate help bot, linked in the profile.

Where it earns its keep

It helps most when several people pay in turns and nobody wants to do the bookkeeping. Travel, shared rent, a birthday, a hike, a party at a friend's place.

  • Trips. Tickets, lodging, food, taxis.
  • Shared homes. Utilities, groceries, cleaning supplies.
  • Gifts. Chip in on a group present and log who put in what.

Keeping the numbers honest

An expense tracker is only as good as the people feeding it. A few habits make the sheet reliable.

  • Log it right away. Half the small stuff is forgotten by tomorrow.
  • Name costs clearly. "Airport taxi" beats "misc".
  • Pick a checker. One person skims the list daily and clears up anything disputed.

And feel free to round small amounts. A few cents of difference ruins nobody, but it saves nerves.

It doesn't move money

One detail worth knowing: Splitsheet calculates but doesn't transfer. You pay each other the usual way, for example through a banking app.

A practical tip: agree in the chat that at the end of a trip everyone checks the total and settles within a week. Then the sheet stays a tool instead of a reason to nag.

The app is small, with around two hundred monthly users, and the interface is simple. For most groups that's enough.
