About this App
Dinner for eight, one bill and five people who will "pay you back later". A week on, nobody remembers who owes what, and you are the one awkwardly asking. SplitPay takes that arithmetic off your plate right inside Telegram. 🧾
You create a room for shared expenses, add the participants and see who owes whom. No spreadsheets and no calculator.
One room per group
Everything is built around rooms. The /create_room command makes a new one, for a trip, a shared rental or a party. Expenses and participants gather there.
You can keep several rooms. One for friends, another for lunch with coworkers, a third for vacation. The calculations never mix. 🏠
A receipt instead of typing
The bot description says you can upload a photo of a receipt and the app recognizes it automatically. That saves time when the bill has twenty lines.
Still, check the result. Recognition can misread a price or skip a line, especially on a crumpled receipt or a faint print. One minute of checking prevents arguments.
What "fair" means
The app promises to distribute costs among participants fairly. Fair does not always mean equal: the person who ordered a salad should not pay for someone else's steak.
- Equal shares. Fits common costs such as a taxi or a house rental.
- By item. Everyone pays for what they ordered.
- By share. When one person had a bigger part of the expense.
These are three typical ways groups divide a bill. Agree on one before you open the room: the principle stays the same, everyone pays for their own. ⚖️
Payments and reminders
The app tracks payments in real time and sends notifications and reminders. The debtor does not need a personal message, the bot does it, and friendships stay intact. 🔔
Keep in mind that such apps usually calculate and remind rather than replace a bank transfer. You send money your usual way and mark the debt as settled in the room.
Settling without arguments
- Create the room right away. Do not wait until the end of the trip or evening.
- Add expenses as you go. Details fade in a week.
- Check the receipt. Especially if the bot recognized it.
- Agree on rules early. Equal or by item, tip included or not.
- Close debts fast. Mark payments in the room.
A word on safety
A receipt photo can carry extra data: part of a card number, a name, an address. Cover those fields or crop the picture if you can.
Do not send card details or message codes through the app or a chat. Transfer money to friends only using details sent by someone you know. ⚠️
Who it helps
Friend groups, flatmates, teams that eat lunch together and anyone traveling in a group. 🌍
If you split costs as a pair and always take turns, a note on your phone is enough. A group of six and a shared holiday with no tracking soon turn into confusion.
