About this App
Your group just passed a couple hundred members, and now you scrub spam by hand at midnight? SkittBot takes that chore over. It bans troublemakers, hands out warnings, greets newcomers and reminds them of the rules.
This is a tool for group admins, not a toy for private chats. Add it to a group, give it admin rights, and it follows your settings. 🛡️
Where it came from
SkittBot was made by Rhyse Simpson, a developer from Australia who goes by Skittles online. It is a fork of another well-known group manager, with extra features and a pile of memes added on top.
The code is open source, written in Python 3 with the python-telegram-bot library. If you want to see how it works or run your own copy, the source is on GitHub.
What it does in your chat
The command set is typical for a group manager, but it covers most of what a community owner needs:
- Bans and kicks. The /ban command removes a troublemaker, and the admin list has its own command.
- Warnings. A member gets a warn for a small offense, and after the limit the bot punishes automatically.
- Filters and blacklists. Set words the bot answers to, or deletes messages for.
- Notes. Answers you repeat all the time are saved under a short name and recalled with one command.
- Welcome messages and rules. Newcomers see what is allowed right away.
/kang: stickers from other people's pictures
The most meme-flavored feature is called kang. Reply to a sticker or an image with /kang and the bot adds it to your own sticker pack. 🎨
That is a quick way to build collections of favorite stickers without fiddling with the official pack tools. The pack address ends with the bot's name, so you can tell where it came from.
Be fair to artists: do not pass someone else's work off as your own in a public pack.
Hooking it up to a group
- Find the bot in Telegram search, open a private chat and press /start.
- Add it to your group from the members menu.
- Promote it to admin with rights to delete messages and ban users.
- Set a welcome message, rules and your first filters.
Without admin rights the bot stays silent or throws an error. That is the most common reason for "nothing works" complaints.
Things to watch
The bot is old, and many newer group managers have appeared around it with fresher features. If you need join captchas, heavy anti-spam logic or statistics, compare a few options before you commit.
Give it only the rights it needs. An account with the power to promote admins is risky in the wrong hands, so keep its settings with moderators you trust. ⚠️
If the bot stops responding, check that it is still in the chat and still an admin. The developer posts change notes in a separate project channel.
Who will like it
Small topical groups that need basic spam defense and a friendly greeting. Sticker fans who want a fast way to assemble packs. And anyone who likes open code and wants to look under the hood.
Communities with thousands of messages an hour will want something heavier, but for a start this is enough. 👍
