QuotLy: a message as a sticker

A friend dropped a line in the chat you want to repeat for years, and an hour later it drowned in a hundred messages. QuotLy catches such moments: reply to a message with /q, and it becomes a quote sticker. 💬

The bot works in private messages and in groups. Its description modestly says it can create sticker quotes from messages, and that really is its main focus.

One reply, one sticker

The scenario is simple: find the message, reply to it with /q, and get a sticker picture with the text and the author's name. Forward it to any chat like an ordinary sticker.

It beats a screenshot. There are no extra borders, the background is clean, and the text stays readable in a small message window.

What you can tweak in /q

Parameters are allowed after the command, and with them the sticker comes out exactly as needed.

• Background color: a color name or a hex code such as #cbafff.
• Number of messages: a digit sets how many messages in a row go into the quote.
• Random color: the random parameter for a surprise.
• Reply inside the quote: reply or r keeps the message that was answered.
• Format: p or png gives a PNG, i or img gives a picture.
• Rating: the rate parameter adds a rating to the quote.

A shared sticker set for the group

The main trick for communities: a group can have its own sticker set where good quotes pile up. In a year it turns into a chronicle of inside jokes.

These commands are for administrators.

• /qs: add a sticker to the group set.
• /qd: remove a sticker from the set.
• /qcolor: set the default quote color.
• /qemoji and /qb: choose the emoji suffix and the emoji style for stickers.
• /qrate: turn ratings on or off.

Random quotes and the top

The /qrand command shows a random group quote, which is the best way to remind everyone of an old joke. The /qtop command lists the most popular quotes.

For the ranking to work, members have to rate quotes, so switch on /qrate if you want a contest.

Launching it in a group, step by step

1. Add the bot to the group.
2. Reply to a message with /q and check the result.
3. Ask an admin to set the color and emoji.
4. Save the best quotes with /qs.
5. Read the guide at /help if you need a hint about parameters.

The interface language can be changed with /lang.

Privacy and the ethics of quoting

A quote shows the name and the words of a specific person. Do not pull phrases out of context to mock someone, and do not turn into a sticker what a person said in a trusting conversation.
