Axenia: Karma for Your Group

Bot • Communities

About this App

Someone in the chat saved you with a tip, and a spoken thank-you gets buried in the message flow. Axenia turns gratitude into a number: the bot counts karma for group members, and replying with a plus is enough. 👍

It is not an instant messaging or anonymous chat bot, as older descriptions claimed. It works only inside groups and tracks reputation.

How to give pluses and minuses

The mechanics are simple. Reply to someone's message with "+" or a 👍 emoji and the author's karma goes up. A "-" or 👎 lowers it. The bot also understands the "+ username" format.

The count is kept separately for each group, and your personal stats show the overall total. Helpful members climb the top quickly. 🏆

Axenia commands

  • /top shows the karma ranking in the current group.
  • /my_stats shows your global statistics.
  • /settings changes language and options. Admins can enable a silent mode with no bot comments and set a pause between ratings.
  • /buy opens a content store where karma can be spent on things like a picture or a GIF.
  • /help gives help and /donate lets you support the developer.

The bot understands Russian and English, and you switch the language in settings.

Adding the bot to a group

  1. Open the bot profile and choose to add it to a group.
  2. Pick the chat from your list.
  3. Confirm permissions. Counting only needs the bot to read group messages.
  4. Test it. Reply with a plus to someone's message and call /top.

If the bot stays silent, check the settings and make sure silent mode is off.

Why a chat needs karma

In big communities, members rarely know whom to trust. Karma shows who regularly helps. It is soft motivation: people like seeing a mark for being useful.

There is a downside. Minuses sometimes turn into a weapon: after one quarrel, someone's rating can get dragged down. To avoid that, admins use the pause between ratings and silent mode. ⚖️

Privacy

Axenia has a feature that hides your group participation from the overall stats. You switch it on in settings in a private message to the bot, and it costs 10 cookies, the project's internal currency.

It helps if you do not want your activity to show in the ranking. 🍪

Open source

The project is open: its code has been published on a developer platform since March 2016, when the bot only counted karma in one group. Anyone can read it or suggest changes.

That is a plus for admins, since it is clear what the bot does. Forks may lag behind in maintenance, so it is better to use the official bot.
