About this App
It is evening, a few friends are in a group chat, and boredom is creeping in. Pull out a deck that needs no table and no cards: Bot UNO deals a round right inside Telegram. Add the bot to a group and a game starts within a minute. 🃏
The bot calls itself unofficial. It is a hobbyist implementation of the card game, and the author honestly warns there is no warranty.
A round in four steps
Starting is quick:
- Add the bot to a group.
- Create a game with /new, and others join with /join.
- Once at least two players are in, launch the round with /start.
- Check your cards through the bot's inline mode: start typing its name in the message box and press space.
You will see your hand in a list. Greyed-out cards cannot be played right now, and picking a card sends your move to the chat. 🎴
Your cards hide in the input box
Only you see your hand, which is the bot's main trick. Everybody else in the chat sees just the move and how many cards each player holds.
It is handy because nobody can peek at your combination. The one drawback is getting used to making moves from suggestions instead of buttons in the feed.
The lobby owner and their commands
Whoever creates the game gets power over the lobby. They can do the following:
- /close and /open. Close sign-ups or open them again.
- /kick. Remove a player from the round.
- /kill. End the whole game.
The other players are not powerless: /leave exits a round, and /skip passes a player who has thought for more than 90 seconds. ⏱️
Modes, language and stats
The /modes command explains the game modes, and /settings opens language and other options. The bot supports several languages, including English and Russian.
There is /stats for statistics and /notify_me: the bot messages you privately when a new round starts in the group. Handy if your crew plays in the evenings and you hate missing the start. 🔔
The /enable_translations and /disable_translations commands switch multi-translation display on and off, and /help recaps how the bot works.
Small things worth knowing
The bot lives on the author's own server, not at a large company. If it lags or goes silent, that is normal for a hobby project: wait a bit and try again.
House rules may differ from yours. Agree beforehand if you play with stacking penalty cards and how you score. The /source command shows information about the source code, and /news covers updates. 📰
The bot asks for no money and no personal data. If someone in the chat offers a link for a premium mode, that is no longer the game, it is an attempt to trick you.
