Replies: your comment answers

About this App

You left a comment under a channel post, and later someone replied to it. How do you find out if you are not even in the discussion group? That is exactly why Telegram has a service chat called Replies.

It needs no setup. It appears in your chat list on its own once someone answers you for the first time. It is a built-in feature of the messenger, not a third-party program.

Where the notifications come from

Many channels have a linked discussion group. Comments under posts actually live there, and Telegram simply shows them as a handy thread right beneath the post.

If you never joined that group, ordinary reply notifications will not reach you. Replies fills the gap: it forwards you every answer to your comment from a group you are not a member of.

What you can do in the chat 💬

The interface is special. You cannot send messages there, because it is an incoming feed only. Still, two actions are useful:

  • Jump to the discussion. The view in chat button opens the original thread with context.
  • Block the author. Tap the message and choose block: the user goes onto your blocklist and their messages in this chat are deleted.

Replies from blocked people stop appearing here. For comment arguments this is the fastest way to end a topic.

Why it helps

Comments in channels often run to dozens. Without a separate feed, you would have to return to posts and hunt for your comment among everyone else's. Replies shows only what is addressed to you.

If you run a channel, the chat helps too: you quickly see reactions to your remarks under other people's posts. For your own publications, watching the discussion group itself is more convenient.

Getting back into the conversation

  1. Leave a comment under a channel post that has comments enabled.
  2. Wait for another member to answer.
  3. Open Replies in your chat list.
  4. Tap the view in chat button and continue in the thread.

If the chat is missing from your list, nobody has replied to you yet, or it was removed from the list. It will come back with your next reply.

Notifications and quiet 🔕

If the chat distracts you, mute it from the chat settings, or pin it if you are waiting for an answer. Like any chat, Replies follows the standard Telegram notification settings.

If you joined the channel's discussion group, replies arrive from there as ordinary messages. In that case you will need the service feed less often.

Privacy and safety

Remember that comments under channel posts are visible to other people. Do not publish your phone number, address or documents there. Scammers often reply under public posts, asking you to follow a link or write in private. If you get such a reply, do not click anything and block the author.

Who it helps

Replies is useful for anyone who comments on channels and wants to keep the thread of a conversation. It costs nothing, needs no installation and works well for readers of news and topic channels with lively discussions.
