Someone sends something important and deletes it a minute later. Or edits a message so the meaning changes. Moder Dialog Bot is made for those moments: it sends you a copy of the deleted message and the original text of the edited one.

Where the messages come from

Telegram tells such bots that a message was deleted but does not send its content. So these services store conversations as they arrive and pull out the copy when the deletion signal comes.

The practical result: only what arrived after you connected the bot is saved. Messages deleted earlier cannot be recovered.

Bots like this usually connect through Telegram Business settings, in the chatbots section. There you can choose which chats the bot sees and disconnect it at any time.

The price of trust

A bot that reads your conversations gets access to very personal material. Take that seriously.

• Check the name. The description states that only one real bot exists and the rest are fakes.
• Do not hand out your phone number. The developers say they do not ask for a phone number or other data. If anyone does, stop.
• Limit chats. Grant access only to dialogs where you need it.
• Think of the other side. Your contacts get no notice that their words are saved.

Ethics and law

Keeping a copy of a conversation for yourself, so agreements do not vanish, is usually fine. Using copies to pressure someone or to publish their private words is not.

Countries treat storage of other people's messages and personal data differently. For work chats, it is better to tell your colleagues.

When it genuinely helps

The bot helps when a client changes terms after the fact, when links and figures vanish from a work chat, or when you need to keep evidence of a dispute. Otherwise ask yourself if you need an extra copy of someone else's messages.
