About this App
You need to gather a hundred people in a work chat for a call. Writing to each person takes forever, and a "Hello everyone" gets lost in the feed.
Mention All & Everyone introduces tags that mention the right people at once: #all for everybody, #afk for those who have been idle, and your own tags for teams. 🔔
Three ready-made tag types
The principle is simple: you type a tag in the chat and the bot turns it into mentions of participants. No need to type names by hand.
- #all: mentions everyone.
- #afk: mentions idle participants.
- Custom tags: for example #mafia or #team, they mention chosen people.
Tags like #mafia and #team are examples from the bot's description. You create your own for your chat: bookkeeping, duty shifts, board game fans, a parents' committee. 🎲
Your own tags for your own crowds
This is the most useful feature. In a large chat you seldom need to call everyone. More often you need specific people: those in charge of delivery, those on shift today, those playing on Friday.
Create one tag per group. Then one short line replaces a list of ten names.
- Think up a short, clear tag with no spaces.
- Add the right participants to it.
- Announce the tag in the chat and pin a message with the rules.
- Once a month clean the lists of people who have left the team.
Busy Mode
Any mass mention can be irritating. That is why the bot has Busy Mode, which disables mentions when you need quiet. Switch it on for a vacation, for sleep or for focused work.
In a chat with a real workload it is good insurance against burnout. People are not obliged to react to every #all. 💤
Mention statistics
Another feature: Mention Stats shows who gets mentioned most in your chat. It makes for an interesting picture.
The leaders in mentions are usually either the most helpful members or those who took on too much. If one person answers everything, it may be time to split responsibilities. 📈
Etiquette for mass mentions
Every mention sends a notification. A hundred people get a signal even when the question concerns three.
- Use #all rarely: only for something that concerns everyone.
- State the point at once: why you are gathering people, when and what to do.
- Do not overuse #afk: nobody likes public reproaches for inactivity.
- Agree on rules: who may call everyone and when.
A two-level rule works well: #all for the urgent and important, topic tags for everything else. People quickly learn that a message with #all is worth reading at once and not postponing.
Setting it up
The /start command restarts the bot and /help shows a hint. Add the bot to a group and grant the permissions it asks for. Test the tags with a small message before you call everyone. ✅
If the chat contains confidential discussions, remember that any bot sees the messages it is allowed to read. Grant the minimum permissions.
