AntiCyrillicScriptBot for Groups

Bot • Moderation & Anti-Spam

About this App

Your group agreed to chat in English, yet a week later the feed is full of Russian, Ukrainian and Bulgarian again. Policing it by hand gets old fast. AntiCyrillicScriptBot does the policing: it spots Cyrillic letters and deletes the message. 🧹

What it actually does

The bot looks at which script a message is written in. If it contains Cyrillic characters, the message disappears from the group. Everything else stays untouched.

This is moderation by alphabet, not by meaning. The bot does not translate anything or judge what people are talking about.

Why it is not an anti-Russian bot

The author has explained that people asked for a filter against Russian specifically. But Cyrillic is used by many languages, so the bot reacts to the writing system, not to one language.

Ukrainian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Serbian and other Cyrillic languages are caught together with Russian. Keep that in mind before adding it to a mixed community.

Three steps to a clean feed

  1. Add the bot to your group. Find it through Telegram search and invite it like any other member.
  2. Give it the delete permission. Telegram does not let a bot remove other people's messages without it, so make the bot an admin with that right.
  3. Test it. Post a short word in Cyrillic and check that it vanishes.

The only command is /start. There are no menus or settings, which is a plus here: there is little to break.

Where it fits

  • International communities. A developer or gaming chat where English is the shared language.
  • Topic groups. Discussions whose moderators read only Latin script and cannot review the rest.
  • Spam in Cyrillic. Some promo mailings come in Russian, and the filter removes them before people see them.

The author labels the bot as a beta, and bugs can be reported to the developer. It shows no ads. 👍

What to expect from the filter

Deletion is not always instant when Telegram itself lags. The developer of similar bots has said such delays can come from the platform side, and asked people not to remove and re-add the bot.

A message with a few Cyrillic letters inside Latin text can be deleted too, because the check looks for the characters themselves. Warn members in the group rules.

For a strict policy that is enough. If you want a soft warning with an explanation, this bot is the wrong tool.

Explaining the rule to people

Pin a short note: "Latin script only here, anything else is deleted automatically." Newcomers then will not wonder where their messages went.

Decide in advance what to do about names and quotes. You could ask members to transliterate them. That keeps the rule clear and fair for everyone. ✍️

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does AntiCyrillicScriptBot cost?▼
The author stresses that these bots carry no ads, and the bot description mentions no paid plans. Just add it to your group and grant the needed right.
What permissions does the bot need?▼
It needs the right to delete messages, which means admin status. Other rights such as banning members or pinning are not needed for this job. Grant only what is required.
Does it remove only Russian?▼
No, it reacts to Cyrillic script as a whole. Ukrainian, Belarusian, Bulgarian and Serbian text written in Cyrillic will be removed as well. If your chat has such members, warn them in advance.
What if the bot does not delete messages?▼
Check that it is an admin with the delete right, then post a test word in Cyrillic. If delays come and go, the cause may be on Telegram's side. Otherwise contact the developer, since the bot is marked as a beta.
