Barker tag bot for group chats

About this App

In a big chat, an important announcement sinks in five minutes. You ask everyone to look, and half the members never see it because their notifications are muted. The Barker bot solves it with one command: /all, and every member gets mentioned 📣

The tool is strong, so here is how to set it up properly without turning your chat into a battle for attention.

Making the bot work

The bot will not do anything if you merely add it to a group. There is one more step: give it administrator rights. Without them it cannot read the member list.

  1. Add the bot to your chat.
  2. Open the group settings and make it an administrator.
  3. Type /all in the chat.
  4. The bot posts a message mentioning every member.

Commands for personal settings

Besides the group call, the bot has commands for fine tuning. They work in a private chat and change how you are called.

  • /changeme: changes your call sign in all chats.
  • /unreg: removes you from the group call in all chats if you are tired of mentions.
  • /language: the bot's language in the private chat.
  • /premium: information on paid options.
  • /help: command help.

When a roll call makes sense

A game on Saturday, an urgent call, a money collection, a sudden cancellation. Anything that needs a response from most people right now.

Debating what everyone is watching tonight is not one of them. When mentions come too often, people mute the chat or leave. 🙃

Good manners

Agree on rules in the chat: when calling everyone is fine and when it is not. With thirty members and one call a week, nobody minds. With a call every hour, they certainly will.

State the point in the call: what happened and what is needed. People then do not have to scroll up to understand why.

What limits the bot

Telegram itself caps message frequency and the number of mentions per message, so in very large groups the bot may answer with a delay. That is normal for this kind of service.

The bot is also under heavy load, with thousands of chats calling it at once. If a command does not fire at once, wait a minute and do not press again to avoid duplicates. ⏳

Security points

Administrator rights are serious access. Give the bot only what it needs, and do not grant rights to remove members or change group settings without a reason. 🔐

If your chat is closed or holds sensitive material, think first: do you need a third-party bot admin at all, or are manual mentions enough?

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I call all chat members with the bot?▼
Add the bot to your group, give it administrator rights and type /all. The bot posts a message mentioning the members. Without admin rights the command will not work.
How do I leave the group call?▼
Send the bot /unreg in a private message and you will stop being included in the group call in all chats. You can change your call sign with /changeme. These settings apply at once to every group where the bot is present.
Why is the bot slow or silent?▼
The bot is popular and often overloaded. Telegram also limits message and mention frequency. Wait a minute, do not resend the command, and check that the bot has administrator rights.
Does it have paid features?▼
The bot has a /premium command with information on paid options. See its reply for what is included and the price. A plain group call with /all does not require a paid subscription.
