Animated Weather: sky and sun data

bot • Handy Tools

About this App

An ordinary weather app says cloudy, 12 degrees. Animated Weather shows the actual clouds from orbit, a live webcam frame and the state of the Sun. It is for people curious about where forecasts come from, and for aurora hunters. 🌤️

Everything arrives straight in the chat as images, animations and graphs, with no trip to a website.

What each command shows

The bot commands return specific data, so they are worth learning:

  • /clouds_sat shows a satellite cloud map.
  • /clouds_pre shows a cloud coverage forecast.
  • /clouds_thunder shows a thunderstorm forecast.
  • /webcam lists the available webcams.
  • /solar lists available shots of the Sun.
  • /graph_all shows solar wind parameters.
  • /magnetometers shows a magnetometer graph.
  • /cme_lollipop sends the latest GIF model of a plasma eruption.

Clouds from above, storms ahead of time

A satellite map helps when the forecast and your window disagree. You see where the cover is solid, where it breaks and which way everything drifts. ☁️

The thunderstorm forecast is useful before a hike, a fishing trip, a drone flight or a barbecue. Every model misses on place and timing, so compare it with the real sky and local warnings.

Webcams as a reality check

Through /webcam you pick a camera and look for yourself. It is a quick way to check fog on a mountain pass, snow on a slope or visibility over a city. Always check the timestamp, because an old frame misleads.

The Sun, magnetic storms and the northern lights

The solar section appeals to amateur astronomers and aurora chasers. 🌌 Three ideas matter most:

  1. Solar wind is a stream of charged particles from the Sun. Its speed and density show up in the graphs from /graph_all.
  2. Earth's magnetic field reacts to that stream. Magnetometers record the swings (the graph from /magnetometers).
  3. Plasma eruptions from the Sun can trigger magnetic storms. An animated model of such events arrives with /cme_lollipop.

When the readings jump, the chance of an aurora goes up, and so do complaints from weather-sensitive people. Still, one graph cannot give an exact storm forecast, so rely on several sources.

Who this bot suits

Photographers chasing auroras and storms. Amateur astronomers. Travelers and anglers who want a picture, not a number. Students too: the graphs make good material for a geography or physics lesson.

The command interface is in English, but visual data needs no translation. 🔭

Practical tips

  • Pin the main commands in your saved messages to reach them in one tap.
  • For aurora hunting, check graphs in the evening and at night, when the sky is darker.
  • Do not decide anything safety related, such as a mountain trip, from a single cloud map.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Animated Weather show?▼
Satellite cloud maps, cloud and thunderstorm forecasts, a list of webcams, shots of the Sun, and graphs of solar wind and magnetometers. The /cme_lollipop command sends a GIF model of a plasma eruption.
How do I see where clouds or storms are right now?▼
Send /clouds_sat for the satellite cloud map or /clouds_thunder for the thunderstorm forecast. To check on the ground, open /webcam and pick a camera from the list.
Can the bot tell me if there will be an aurora?▼
It provides the data aurora chasers read: solar wind and the magnetometer graph. Sharp changes raise the chance, but nothing is guaranteed. Check your local cloud cover and the night sky too.
Do I need to speak English to use it?▼
Command names are in English, but the graphs, images and maps need no translation. Open the bot and send /start to see the list.
