Iris | Deep Purple Chat Bot

Bot • Moderation & Anti-Spam

About this App

Your chat keeps growing, spammers show up every day, and manual moderation eats your evenings. People add Iris | Deep Purple to a group to take load off admins and restore order quickly. 🛡️

It is a bot from the Iris | Chat Manager family, a Russian-language chat manager. It is built first of all for groups, not for private dialogs.

Commands that settle conflicts

The core of the bot is quick action on members. These are the ones listed in its menu:

  • /ban blocks a user.
  • /kick removes someone from the conversation without a block, so they can return.
  • /mute silences a member: they stay in the chat but cannot write.
  • /staff shows the list of admins.
  • /help brings up the help and a list of support agents.
  • /commands opens an article with the full command list.

Ban, kick or mute: which one

The difference matters. A mute fits when someone simply got heated in an argument. A kick is for when you want someone out but with a chance to return. A ban is for spammers and people who should not come back.

Start with the mild option. If the member breaks the rules again, move to harsher measures. That leaves fewer hard feelings in the chat. 🤝

Connecting the bot to a group

  1. Add the bot to the chat as a member.
  2. Promote it to admin and give it rights to ban users and delete messages.
  3. Send /help and read the help.
  4. Open the article under /commands and choose the features you need.

Without admin rights the bot cannot ban or mute, so do not skip that step.

A family of bots and why

The project channel says Deep Purple appeared to take load off the main bot and spread it across several.

The same channel advised replacing the main bot in chats with one of the newer ones, and said chat statistics are kept after the swap. That statement is old, so check current terms with the project channel.

What to do on day one

Do not switch everything on at once. First just check that the bot sees the chat and answers the help command. Then test /mute on your second account or on a friendly member, warning them in advance.

Make sure the other admins know the commands too. One shared agreement on who punishes for what saves arguments inside the moderation team. 📋

How not to hurt your own chat

Give the bot only the rights it needs and do not make it your only moderator. A live admin is still required: a bot will not catch the context of a joke and can make mistakes. ⚠️

Pin the chat rules as a separate message so punishment is never a surprise. If you need help, the bot profile lists a support chat.
