About this App
Five by five squares, one letter per turn, and an opponent who wants the same word you do. Many people know Balda from a school notebook. Now that word duel fits into Telegram and opens as a mini app.
You can play against friends or against AI. The app is free and has no ads. Only hints cost anything, and they are bought with Telegram Stars.
What is inside
- A duel on a 5x5 board. The classic format: you and your opponent take turns placing letters and building words.
- Play with friends. Challenge an acquaintance and see who is stronger at words.
- Play against AI. Good when nobody is around or you want to practice.
- Daily puzzle. A fresh puzzle each day, so there is always something to solve.
- Leaderboard. A ranking that shows who wins most often.
- Hints. They help in a tough moment and are paid for with Telegram Stars.
How Balda is played
The rules are simple but deep. In the classic version, a five-letter word is placed in the middle of the board, and you take turns extending it.
- Place a letter. In an empty square next to existing letters.
- Form a word. The path through adjacent squares must include the new letter.
- Check the dictionary. The word has to exist, and repeats of played words are not allowed.
- Score points. Usually one per letter in the word.
- Fill the board. When squares run out, the player with more points wins.
For the app's exact rule set, use the /rules command. It covers everything you need for a first game. 🎯
Commands worth knowing
The game opens with /start. The other commands are for reference and rules.
- /help. General help.
- /faq. Answers to frequent questions.
- /rules. Game rules.
- /privacy. The privacy policy.
- /terms. Terms of service.
Playing better
Short words are safe but score little. Winners think two moves ahead: they set traps and keep long setups for themselves.
Watch your opponent too. If a handy letter sits on the board and enables a long word, take it first or block the neighboring squares.
Where a beginner should start
Play your first match against AI to get used to the board and the order of moves. Once comfortable, invite friends: a live opponent plays less predictably.
Do not fear mistakes. A lost match teaches you to spot the chances you missed.
About hints and Stars
The game is free, but hints are bought with Telegram Stars. That is Telegram's in-app currency, topped up through an app store or Telegram itself.
Before you spend any, try thinking it through first. Save hints for tough matches and the daily puzzle so the game stays an honest workout. ⭐
Why a game like this is hard to put down
Balda builds vocabulary and the knack of seeing words in a jumble of letters. A match lasts a few minutes, so it fits a queue or a break.
The ranking and the daily puzzle give a reason to return. The game turns into a small daily ritual for the mind.
