About this App
It is evening, friends are over, and nobody knows what to play. Alias answers that in a minute. Open the mini app in Telegram, split into teams and start explaining words. 🗣️
Say it without saying it
The idea is simple. One player sees a word and describes it to their teammates without speaking the word. The aim is to get as many right as possible before time runs out.
You can play in teams or on your own. It suits friends and family alike, even when the table spans several ages.
The classic Alias rules
Check the mini app for its exact timer and scoring. The general Alias rules usually go like this:
- Explainer: the role moves to a new player each round.
- Clues: synonyms, opposites, associations and descriptions.
- Forbidden: saying the word, parts of it, words with the same root, or showing letters.
- Answer: only the exact form of the word counts.
- Point: each guessed word earns the team a point.
Explaining so they actually guess
Start with the widest feature: "it is an animal" or "it is a kitchen item". Then narrow down. The team finds the right direction faster that way.
If a word will not come, skip it and do not burn precious seconds. In some versions a skip costs a point, so check the rules inside the app. ⏱️
Starting without a phone scramble
- Open the bot and launch the game with /start.
- Decide if you play in teams or one by one.
- Choose who explains first.
- Agree on a winning score before you begin, so there is no argument at the end.
One phone for everyone is enough: hand it to the explainer and make sure nobody peeks at the screen. 📱
Team tactics: who explains and when
Rotate roles so everybody explains the same number of times. Then the score reflects teamwork rather than one person's talent.
Agree on taboos ahead of time: for example, no gestures or facial hints if you play by classic Alias rules. For a looser game, allow gestures in a separate round.
Listen to each other. If the team keeps repeating one wrong word, change your approach and explain through the opposite: "not cold, not wet". After the round, talk about which words were hard and laugh at the strangest clues. 😄
What the game gives you
Alias trains vocabulary and the knack of putting a thought in few words. For language learners it is good practice, since you must find synonyms and describe ideas simply.
Kids can join too if the words fit their age. The profile of the bot lists a community and an author contact. 🎲
