Inline Info Username: ID by Name

Bot • Handy Tools

About this App

You are setting up a channel, filling in a bot's settings, or answering a support request, and suddenly a plain username is not enough. You need the numeric ID. Inline Info Username answers that right from the message field, with no separate chat. 🔍

The bot works only in inline mode. You type its name in any chat, add a space, and enter the username you want to look up.

What inline mode means in practice

A regular bot is its own chat: open it, press Start, type a request, read the reply. An inline bot lives in the message field of any dialog, group or channel where you are writing.

You call it by name, and it shows a suggestion above the keyboard. Tap the suggestion and the result goes into the chat. You do not have to add the bot to a group or give it admin rights. ⌨️

What it tells you

The bot returns details about the username you pass to it. Most people use it for one thing: finding the numeric ID of a user, group or channel known by its public name.

An ID helps where a name will not do. Think bot configuration, scripts, and messages to developers who ask for it.

Five steps to a result

  1. Open any chat and put the cursor in the message field.
  2. Type the bot's name, then a space.
  3. Add the username you want to check, with no extra words.
  4. Wait a couple of seconds for the result to appear above the keyboard.
  5. Tap it to send the answer into the current dialog.

Do this in Saved Messages (your chat with yourself). Then only you see the answer, not the people in a group. 📝

Who ends up using it

  • Channel and group admins. For settings that ask for a numeric ID rather than a public name.
  • Bot developers. To grab an identifier fast while testing.
  • Moderators. Usernames can be changed, but an ID stays the same, so it is easier to follow an account by it.
  • Regular users. When a service's support team asks you for your ID.

Where the bot stops

It works with public names. If a person has no username or has hidden it, a lookup by that name finds nothing.

This is not a surveillance tool. Phone numbers, private conversations or hidden profile data cannot be pulled by username, and that is how it should be. Anyone who promises that is almost always running a scam. 🚫

A few cautions

Telegram has many bots with near-identical names. One changed letter and you call a different service. Check the spelling before you send a query.

Never type passwords, SMS codes or personal data after an inline bot's name. The bot receives whatever you enter there, so type only a public username. 🔐

The audience is big: the catalog lists about 161 thousand users. People clearly want a quick lookup tool for short reference tasks like this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to add the bot to a group?▼
No. The bot works only in inline mode: type its name in the message field of any chat and add the username you need. No admin rights and no separate dialog are required.
What data does it show?▼
The bot returns information about the username you pass in, most often the numeric ID of a user, group or channel. It does not reveal phone numbers, conversations or hidden profile data.
Why does nothing come back for a name?▼
Check that the username is spelled correctly and belongs to an existing public account. If the person hides or has removed the name, it cannot be looked up this way. Try the query again after a couple of seconds.
Is it safe to use an inline bot?▼
For public usernames, yes, but remember the bot receives everything you type after its name. Do not enter passwords, codes or personal data. It is wise to try the query in Saved Messages so nobody else sees the result.
