Text to Voice: Voiceovers on Telegram

Sometimes it is easier to say it than write it, and sometimes funnier in someone else's voice. The Text to Voice bot takes your text and reads it aloud in the voices of famous people. 🎙

How it works

The scheme in the bot description is short. You press Start, pick a voice and send your text. A voiceover comes back.

The bot has just one command, /start, and everything else happens with buttons in the chat. The resulting audio can be forwarded to friends or to a channel.

Why voice a text

Speech synthesis has many uses, and not only entertaining ones.

• Pranks. A birthday greeting supposedly from a celebrity.
• Content. Voiceover for short videos, stories and channels.
• Listening instead of reading. A long message is easier to hear on the road.
• Proofreading by ear. Errors and awkward phrases stand out in audio.

Keep the mood in mind: a voice like this works best as a joke. 😄

Getting a good result

1. Write short sentences, which neural networks handle better.
2. Avoid abbreviations, acronyms and emoticons.
3. Spell out numbers and dates.
4. Check punctuation, because it sets the pauses.

If the intonation sounds odd, rewrite the phrase and try again. ✍️

Borrowed voices and where to stop

A celebrity voice made by a neural network is still an imitation. Keep that in mind before you send anything.

• Do not pass the audio off as a real person's speech.
• Do not use it to deceive, to fake a celebrity endorsement or to invent statements.
• Do not write texts that humiliate or compromise a real person.

Faking a voice to mislead people can get you blocked, and in some countries it carries legal liability. ⚖️

Privacy and ads

Everything you write to the bot is processed on the service side. Do not send passwords, passport data or private conversations. The bot profile lists a contact for information and advertising, so free bots may show ad inserts. 🔒

Study and work uses

Listening to a text helps you catch what the eye skips. If you drafted a speech or a post, hear it read back: long, heavy phrases stand out at once.

People who absorb information better by ear can listen to notes while running errands. And for chat jokes a phrase or two is plenty.
