Sobert: The Talking Wolf Bot

Some chats are missing one odd member. Sobert is exactly that: it introduces itself as a talking wolf, answers off topic, sometimes surprisingly well, and never promises to be smart. 🐺

The profile says it plainly: it is not very smart yet, but it is working on it. The request is modest too: say hello or add it to a group, and it promises not to talk too much.

What is inside the wolf

This is not a wrapper around a large language model but the author's own neural network. According to the creator's 2019 write-up, it is a character-level model trained on chat data of about 370 megabytes. Those figures describe the version of that time, and the model has been updated since.

That approach explains the style of the answers. The wolf copies the manner of real conversations: it jokes, gets confused and sometimes produces nonsense. Expect an amusing partner, not a reference book.

Direct chat and groups

In private messages the bot answers your lines and keeps up the chatter. In a group it behaves more quietly and, as described, does not flood the chat.

If the bot stops answering in a group, a simple trick from its news channel helps: remove the bot and add it again.

Commands and tricks

• /help. The list of commands.
• /option_set sticker_prob. Set the chance of stickers. They are off by default in groups.
• /pq. Reply with this command to a wolf message and it goes into a separate collection of its quotes.

Stickers liven up the chat, but in a big group keep the probability low. Otherwise the wolf gets tiresome fast. 🎭

Content may be adult

The bot description carries a warning: replies can sometimes be not safe for work or for children, so use at your own risk. The network learns from real conversations, so no one can predict every phrase.

Do not add the bot to children's chats or work groups where a strict tone matters. An admin should warn the members beforehand.

Conversation privacy

Every line you send to the bot is processed by the service. Do not write passwords, addresses, documents or other details to the wolf that you would not want strangers to see.

Treat it as a toy for a good mood. Serious questions need reliable sources, not a chatty animal. 🔒

How to talk to the wolf

The network responds better to short, lively lines than to long questions full of conditions. Joke, argue, write odd phrases: the wolf picks up the tone and answers in the same spirit.

Do not expect logic at every step. If a reply turns out funny, save it with /pq, and if you dislike it, just send another line. The dialog starts fresh, and there is no reason to take offense at a wolf. 😄

Updates for the bot appear in a separate news channel, and you can reach the author through the contact in the profile. That is also where settings are explained and new features are announced.
