About this App
You open an article in Telegram and the clean reader view turns out broken: a missing image, a title in the wrong spot, paragraphs in the wrong order. Previews is where you report that. 📰
It takes your feedback about webpage previews built for Telegram's Instant View and sends it to the people who maintain them.
A quick word on Instant View
Instant View opens an article inside Telegram without waiting for the original site to load. You get plain text, pictures and headings, with no banners or pop-ups in the way.
Each site needs its own template. A template is a set of instructions that says where the headline sits, where the author is, what counts as body text and which blocks to throw away. Websites change their layouts all the time, so templates go stale.
Where your report goes
Previews exists only to collect feedback on those generated pages. It does not read articles to you or fix them on the spot. You send a description of the problem, and it travels onward.
The link to the bot normally sits at the very bottom of an Instant View page. You spot an error, scroll down, tap, and you are already in the right chat instead of hunting for a contact.
One minute from glitch to report
- Open the page with the problem. Do it right away while the link is still handy.
- Scroll to the end of the article. The feedback bot link is waiting there.
- Press /start. The bot points you to the /feedback command.
- Send /feedback and describe the issue. Say exactly what broke.
That is the whole process. No sign-up, no settings. 🙂
How to write feedback that gets fixed
People who maintain templates need specifics. "It looks bad" gives them nothing to act on. "The images in the middle of the article are missing" is a task someone can check.
- Name the symptom. Missing images, cut-off text, an extra block at the top, scrambled paragraph order.
- Say where you saw it. The article address or the site name helps find the right template.
- Describe the expected result. For example, "the headline should come before the photo".
- Keep it to one problem. One report per issue is easier to read and sort out.
What this bot will not do
Previews is not a support desk and not a link tool. It will not refresh the cached preview of a link in your chat and it will not open a page for you. Changing the picture or caption of a link someone already posted is a separate matter handled by Telegram's cache.
A basic link preview and Instant View work differently. The first is pulled from the page's metadata, the second is built from a template. Fixing one does not repair the other.
Do not expect an instant reply either. Your report is a signal for editing a template, and the result shows up later, once the template is updated.
Who gets the most out of it
If you read a lot of news and long articles in Telegram, you run into broken pages more often than anyone. Your report helps you and everybody else who opens a page from the same site.
If you run a website or a blog, this is a way to see your pages the way readers do. When Instant View breaks on your article, you learn that your markup deserves a closer look.
There is also a plain reason to bother: it is a quick way to influence a feature you use every day. Your next article might finally open without glitches. 😄
