About this App
You are setting up a bot, connecting notifications or writing a script, and the system demands a numeric chat ID. Nowhere in the Telegram interface is it visible. ChatID Helper fixes this in two taps: message the bot and it sends the number you need 🔢
It is a very simple utility, and that is its strength. Around a thousand people use it each month, mostly developers and channel admins.
Why you need an ID
Every user, group and channel in Telegram has a unique numeric identifier. A name can change while the ID stays, so programs work with it.
- Bot setup. For a bot to write to the right group, it needs its number.
- Automation and scripts. Sending alerts from a server, website or smart home.
- Support and moderation. Give an admin the exact address of a chat when names repeat.
- Dashboards and platforms. Many services ask for an ID when linking to Telegram.
Get an ID in a minute
- Open the bot. Tap /start.
- Receive the number. The bot replies with the ID of the chat you are using.
- Copy it. Paste it wherever an identifier is required.
- For a group or channel follow the method described in /help.
/help explains how to find the ID of chats beyond your private dialogue.
Why some IDs have a minus
A positive number usually belongs to a person, and a negative one to a group or channel. Supergroups and channels start with -100 and a long run of digits. That is normal: the sign and prefix must be entered too, or the program will not find the chat 🔍
The most common beginner mistake is cutting off the minus or the leading -100 while copying.
Open code and privacy
The author states that all the bot's code is open and the project runs on cloud functions. That is a real plus: any developer can read what the bot does and even run their own copy.
Still, use common sense. The bot sees the messages you send it and the ID itself. Do not send it passwords or personal data ⚠️
Using it safely
- Do not publish IDs without need. An ID alone is harmless but reveals chat details.
- Do not add unknown bots to closed groups just to get an ID. Forwarding a message to the bot is easier.
- Check the bot's name. Similar but non original copies exist.
- Never enter tokens or keys. The utility does not need them.
Who it suits
Bot and integration developers, admins connecting services to their channels, and anyone asked for a number instead of a name. If you only want to talk to a friend, you will not need this bot 🙂
