JoinHider: a group chat without join spam

Bot • Channel Management

About this App

You open a busy group and the screen is a wall of "Alex joined", "Maria left", "Sam joined". The conversation you wanted to read is buried somewhere underneath. JoinHider deletes those lines, and the chat becomes readable again.

The bot does a single job: it removes the system messages that appear when someone joins or leaves a group. There is nothing else in it, and that is the appeal.

What gets cleaned up

Telegram adds service messages to every group on its own. Everyone sees them, and in a large group they eat half the screen.

  • Joins: the note that a person joined or was added.
  • Leaves: the note that a person left or was removed.
  • All system messages: a separate mode that wipes every service note.

Each option switches on and off independently, so you can, for example, delete only the leave notes and keep the rest. 🧹

Set up in two minutes

  1. Add the bot to your group like any other member.
  2. Open the administrators list and promote the bot.
  3. Give it one permission: deleting messages. No other rights are required.
  4. Type /joinhider check in the group. A reply means it is working.

The delete permission is mandatory. Without it Telegram will not let the bot remove anything, so check that first if the bot stays silent.

Tuning it for your group

Settings are typed in the chat you want to configure, and every group keeps its own.

  • /joinhider config shows the current parameters.
  • /joinhider set delete_user_joined_msg yes turns on removal of join notes, and no turns it off.
  • /joinhider set delete_user_left_msg yes does the same for leave notes.
  • /joinhider set delete_all_system_msg yes removes every service message.

Run the commands in the group you are configuring. ⚙️

Who gets the most out of it

Large and high-traffic groups benefit most: interest communities, shop and channel chats, study groups with a steady stream of newcomers. In places like that, a hundred joins and leaves a day is normal.

A group of five friends has no use for it. There is hardly anyone to clutter the feed.

There is a side benefit too. When the feed is a constant run of joins and leaves, a newcomer struggles to spot the admin's actual message. With the clutter gone, pinned rules and announcements stand out. 📌

What the bot leaves alone

It does not ban spammers, quiz newcomers with a captcha or filter links. Protecting a group takes other tools, and JoinHider is only responsible for a tidy feed.

Notes created before the bot arrived usually stay where they are. The bot reacts to new events, so old history has to be cleared by hand.

Give the bot only the rights it needs. Deleting messages is enough, and extra admin powers add risk with no benefit.

When it does not work

Notes still appear? Check three things: the bot is an administrator, message deletion is enabled for it, and the option you need is set to yes. /joinhider config shows all of this in a second.

Several bots with similar names exist. Add the exact one you mean, and never hand admin rights to an account you do not recognize. 🔍

Frequently Asked Questions

What permissions does JoinHider need?▼
Make the bot a group administrator and enable the right to delete messages. No other rights are needed. After promoting it, type /joinhider check in the group to confirm it replies.
How do I remove only the leave messages?▼
Type /joinhider set delete_user_left_msg yes in the group. Join notes stay until you also turn on delete_user_joined_msg. The /joinhider config command shows the current values.
Why are old join notes still there?▼
The bot handles new events after it is added, so earlier history stays and has to be deleted by hand. If new notes are not removed either, check that the bot has the delete messages permission.
Will the bot protect my group from spam?▼
No. It only removes service notes about joining and leaving. Spam protection comes from entry captchas, link filters and manual moderation, none of which JoinHider offers.
