A chat goes quiet, and nobody wants to install a whole game for one quick match. Shashki v Chate fixes that in a second: the board shows up in the conversation and you can start moving. 🎯
You start the bot with the Start button. The /start command shows the board, /help opens the rules, and /privacy displays the privacy policy.
Versus the bot or versus a friend
There are two ways to play. Pick the bot when nobody is around, or challenge a friend and play a real person.
Games run in a private chat or in a group. There is no extra app to install, everything happens inside Telegram.
Why checkers fit a chat so well
A checkers game is a string of short moves, and each move takes a single tap. You can make two moves on a coffee break, answer a message, and return to the board later.
In a group it also gives people something to react to: one member challenges another, the rest cheer and shout advice, which is of course cheating. 🙂
A refresher on Russian checkers
The bot's name points to Russian checkers, which have their own quirks. If you grew up on another variant, some moves will surprise you.
- Board. 8 by 8 squares, pieces sit on the dark ones. Each player has 12 pieces.
- Movement. A regular piece moves one square diagonally forward. White goes first.
- Captures. Capturing is mandatory, and regular pieces may also capture backward.
- Kings. A piece that reaches the far row becomes a king and moves diagonally any number of squares.
Check /help inside the bot for its exact rule set. That tells you how it handles the disputed edge cases.
Habits that keep you alive past move ten
A few ideas that work against anyone, the bot included.
- Keep your back-row pieces home as long as you can. They guard the path to kinging.
- Take the center. A piece in the middle has more options than one on the edge.
- Before each move, look for a forced capture your opponent could get that wrecks your position.
- Do not rush exchanges. Trade only when you end up with the better structure.
Because capturing is forced, one careless move often hangs several pieces at once. That is where the flashy combinations and the painful losses come from. 😅
Privacy and common sense
The bot has a dedicated command for its privacy policy. Read it, especially if you plan to play in a large group where challenges and games are visible to every member.
As with any bot, never send passwords, login codes or payment details into the chat. A checkers game does not need them, and a legitimate game bot will not ask. 🔒
