About this App
Forty people are in your chat, and the one answer you need is missing. You type "hey everyone", and half of them never see it. Barker solves it with one command: the bot tags group members so the notification reaches each person. 📣
The bot profile says it plainly: it helps you quickly call all participants of your chat. Nothing more is required of it.
Connect it in a minute
The bot works in groups. First add it to the chat and give it admin rights, otherwise it cannot see the member list.
- Open the group settings and add the bot.
- Make it an administrator.
- Send the /all command in the chat.
- Check that the message with mentions arrived.
After that a single command gathers everyone. Rights not needed for calling are better left ungranted. 🔐
Commands and what they do
- /help. Help on what the bot can do.
- /language. The bot's language in private chat.
- /unreg. Leave the call in all chats if you are tired of mentions.
- /changeme. Change your call sign in all chats.
- /premium. Information about the paid version.
Call signs are especially handy in big groups: a call reads better when everyone has a short name. See the terms of the paid version inside the bot.
When /all makes sense
You do not need to tag everybody every time. It is a tool for important cases, not for any message.
- Meetup gathering. Classmates, colleagues, friends at a picnic.
- Urgent announcement. The time or place has changed.
- Voting. You need everyone's opinion, only the loudest.
- Games and streams. Call the team at the right moment.
A real-life example
A class monitor gathers everyone for a Saturday meeting. Instead of ten private messages, one line with /all and the meeting time is enough. A minute later it is clear who responded.
That saves time and keeps important news from getting lost, especially in a busy chat where messages sink within half an hour. 🕒
Etiquette
If you tag everyone for every trifle, members will soon mute notifications or leave the chat. Agree in the group when a call is acceptable.
One call a day for a good reason is fine. Ten calls an hour is spam. 😅
Why there are several versions
The bot is known as Barker Tag Bot with numbers: the project runs several copies with the same purpose. The point is to spread the load, since a single bot may not cope with many chats.
If your copy answers slowly or reports an overload, wait a little or connect another number. The project posts news and updates in its own channel. ⏳
What to consider for a big group
- Telegram limits. Mentions in one message are limited, so a call may go out in batches.
- Opted-out members. People who left the call will not be tagged.
- Posting rights. If the chat has restrictions, the bot must be allowed to send messages.
Take requests to remove someone from the call calmly: the /unreg command exists for exactly that. ✅
