About this App
At a festival, in the mountains, underground or during a mobile internet shutdown, your phone becomes a brick and messages just sit there with a clock icon. Offline Protocol builds apps that move data straight between phones, with no cell towers and no internet. OfflineID Bot is the Telegram doorway into that ecosystem. 📡
What OfflineID actually is
OfflineID is a digital identity created on your device as an Ed25519 cryptographic key pair. The private key stays on the phone. It is never sent anywhere, not for backup and not for sync.
With that ID, two devices can verify each other without a server. On a network with no internet, that is how you know you are talking to the right person and not an impostor.
The project has also described OfflineID as a portable social graph: your contacts and connections, carried into every offline app in the ecosystem.
How a message travels with no internet
The core idea is a mesh network. Every phone running the app becomes a small relay, passing encrypted messages along until they reach the recipient. 🔗
- Bluetooth Low Energy. Short-range links that barely touch the battery.
- Wi-Fi Direct. Phone-to-phone connections that are faster and reach further.
- Internet. Used when available, with automatic switching between channels.
- Up to 8 hops. A message can pass through several strangers' phones, with confirmed delivery.
No extra hardware is needed, regular smartphones do the job. The company reports more than 350,000 devices in over 80 countries and more than 300,000 IDs issued.
Who is behind it
Offline Protocol raised 1.1 million dollars in pre-seed funding and was a UNICEF Innovation Fund finalist. Today the company focuses on a developer toolkit, emergency communication and public-sector projects.
The ecosystem also has its own messenger, Fernweh, which runs on top of the mesh network.
Points and promised rewards
In 2025, claiming an OfflineID, inviting friends and using the apps earned Offline Points tied to future rewards. That is the familiar airdrop waiting game. 🪂
- No guarantees. Points are not money, and nobody is obliged to turn them into anything valuable.
- Official entry points only. Popular airdrops attract plenty of fake bots. Open the bot only through a link on the project's official site.
- Keep your keys. A real service never needs your seed phrase or Telegram login codes.
Is it worth opening now
Activity around the Telegram bot is low these days, and the company talks more about business solutions than user perks. If the idea of messaging without internet appeals to you, the bot is a fine way to get an ID and look around the ecosystem.
If you came only for rewards, be realistic about how much time you want to spend. The technology itself is more useful than any points, especially in places where the signal disappears.
