Bidpaw is a Telegram mini app with auctions for crypto assets. Every bid restarts a countdown, and whoever placed the last bid takes the lot. That is the penny auction format, and it has features worth knowing before your first bid. 🔨
This is for adults only, 18+. It describes a service and is not a recommendation to take part in auctions.
How an auction runs
App directories describe it like this: participants bid in real time, with a ten second countdown between bids. When the countdown ends without a new bid, the lot goes to the last bidder.
Unlike an ordinary auction, where only the winner pays, here everyone who bid has paid for taking part. A paid bid is money that does not come back, even when the lot goes to someone else.
Lots run in parallel, so you can follow several at once. That is convenient, and it also makes spending easier.
Auto bids and what they cost
The service has an automatic bidding feature called BidBuddy that lets you schedule bids in advance. For the user it means spending can go on without your involvement.
Automation helps when you do not want to miss a moment, but it also makes costs easy to overlook. If you use it, set an upper limit and check your balance.
- A limit per lot. Decide in advance how much you will spend on one auction.
- A limit per day. The total budget matters more than the price of a single bid.
- Stop after a loss. Missing a lot is not a reason to double down.
Why a penny auction is a risk
The longer the fight for a lot lasts, the more bidders have already put in, and the stronger the urge to continue so the money is not wasted. This trap is called escalation of commitment.
The organizer collects money on every bid, not only the value of the lot. So the total of bids in one auction can easily exceed the price of the prize itself.
One person can win while many spend. Those who came late or stopped have no chance of coming out ahead.
What to look for in the terms
- Bid price. What one bid costs and if the price changes.
- Refunds. Whether losers get anything back.
- Prize delivery. Where and how fast won assets arrive.
- Wallet. What exactly the app asks you to connect and which permissions it requests.
Crypto and safety
Crypto transfers cannot be reversed: a mistaken payment or a lost bid will not come back. Do not connect a wallet that holds your main savings, and do not sign operations you do not understand.
The value of a won asset can change quickly. Crypto prices swing, so the amount at delivery differs from the amount at auction time.
Age and the law
Paid auctions where the outcome depends on speed and chance count as gambling in many countries. Check the law where you live and make sure you are at least 18.
Keeping spending under control
- Budget. Only an amount whose loss will not hurt you.
- No debt. Leave money for food, housing and bills alone.
- Pauses. A fast pace with a countdown in seconds pressures decisions.
- Records. Write down what you spend to see the real picture.
If stopping is hard, talk to people close to you or contact a free gambling helpline in your country.
