About this App
Two-factor codes usually live in a separate phone app. Lose the phone and logging into your email, exchange or social account turns into a puzzle. Authenticator moves the one-time password (OTP) generator into Telegram and keeps your entries in the messenger's cloud.
It is a Mini App, so it opens inside Telegram and there is nothing to install. It looks and behaves like the familiar Google Authenticator, with sync across your own devices 📱
What it actually does
One job: show six-digit codes that change every 30 seconds. You type them in after your password when logging in.
- OTP generation for any service that supports time-based one-time passwords.
- Sync across all your Telegram clients: phone, desktop, tablet.
- Cloud storage in Telegram's encrypted cloud, with no separate server holding your keys.
- Import from Google Authenticator, so you do not have to re-enroll every account by hand.
Adding your first account
The flow is the same almost everywhere. The service shows a QR code or a text key, and the app turns it into a live code.
- Open Authenticator in Telegram.
- In the security settings of your service, enable two-factor protection with an authenticator app.
- Add an entry: scan the QR code or type the secret key manually.
- Enter the six-digit code on the website to confirm the link.
Save the backup codes the service gives you when you turn on 2FA. They help if you ever lose access to Telegram.
Moving over from Google Authenticator
With ten or twenty entries, re-enrolling each one is tedious. Import solves that: Google Authenticator can export accounts as a QR code, and you load it into Authenticator.
After the transfer, test every service once with a fresh code. Delete the old app only when you are sure everything works ✅
The catch
Convenience has a price. If your OTP keys sit in Telegram, the safety of those codes equals the safety of your Telegram account. Whoever gets into it sees your codes too.
Before moving important accounts (email, bank, crypto exchange), do three things:
- Turn on a cloud password (two-step verification) in Telegram and never reuse it elsewhere.
- Check the active sessions list in settings and end any you do not recognize.
- For your most valuable accounts, keep a fallback: backup codes or a hardware key.
Who will like it
It suits people who switch devices often or work at a computer and hate reaching for the phone each time. The code shows in desktop Telegram, so a login takes a couple of seconds ⏱
If your life is already in Telegram, this is a natural extension. If you want maximum isolation, a dedicated offline app or a physical key is safer.
Small things worth knowing
One-time codes depend on the clock. If your device time is off, codes get rejected. Switch on automatic date and time.
Keep the codes out of screenshots and screen recordings. Never read codes to a "support agent": real support does not ask for them 🔐
Give entries clear names, like "Email, personal" and "Email, work". Six months from now you will be glad you did.
